Valve and Gasket Demonstrator
The Valve and Gasket Demonstrator is a mobile training unit on heavy-duty castors with a 2" welded pipe and several different valves, gaskets, flanges, blinds, and orifice plates. This provides multiple learning outcomes for industrial process skills training associated with the identification, removal, and replacement of valves, flanges, and blinds.
The unit can be operated on its own wet or dry, with quick-connect hose fittings for linking to a tap and drain, or the unit can be integrated to operate with DarbyTech's Hands-On Process Operator Skills Trainer (HPOST) base unit training skid.
Components
- Pipe work system 2-inch welded steel powder coated complete with check valve, and multiple drain and vent valves.
- Various valve types (plug, gate, ball, orifice plate, spectacle, and paddle blinds) for trainees to identify, disassemble, reassemble, and operate.
- Samples of different types of commonly used gaskets including spiral wound, EPDM Rubber (full face and IBC), and PTFE Gasket (Full Face and IBC).
- Pressure gauge and block and bleed manifold.
- Appropriate tools are provided for valve disassembly and reassembly.
Training Activities
- Identifying Valve Types and Components: Trainees can explore different gasket materials, their properties, and how to choose the right tools and gaskets for specific applications. They can practice installing gaskets correctly, ensuring a proper seal between the valve and the flange.
- Disassembly and Reassembly: Trainees can practice disassembling different valves using appropriate tools, and following proper procedures to avoid damaging components. Reassembly allows them to understand how the parts fit together and create a proper seal.
- Gasket Selection and Installation: Trainees can explore the different gasket materials. their properties, and how to choose the right one for specific applications. They can practice installing gaskets correctly, ensuring a proper seal between valve components.
- Valve Operation: Trainees can operate various valves, understanding how opening and closing mechanisms work and how they affect flow.
- Wet Operation: The valve section can be filled with water so that the flanges and seals can be checked for leakage. Hose connectors are fitted to the low-point drain valve so that the demonstrator can be fully drained after use.
