Photovoltaic Energy Trainer Permanent mounting with sun tracking
Description: Photovoltaic energy is the direct conversion of solar energy (sunlight) into direct current electricity. Our trainers model two technologies:
- Systems maximizing utilization when power is produced and
- Systems with energy storage for use anytime day or night
To provide for student understanding of photovoltaic systems two basic models are proposed, each of which comprises a complete energy system including solar PV panels, solar tracking supports, typical control modules, energy storage modules and manuals covering student exercises, instructor operating notes and technical documentation. Systems comprise of commercially available components, with enhanced instrumentation for improved student understanding and with a custom designed training module. Note that these are real working systems intended for the PV panels to be mounted outside in natural sunlight.
Equipment Specification Highlights:
- Working system without battery storage (water pumping).
Model #: SET1-H2O-2-48-ZG
- Solar array with the Zomeworks® passive tracker that is specifically designed for 2 modules.
- This system will have 2 x SH175 24v PV modules wired up for 48VDC.
- Power controller / inverter
- Grundfoss® water pump
- Two water storage tanks one at low elevation representing a water source, one elevated to represent a water storage tank
- Associated pipe and fittings in clear PVC for student observation of internal action
- This will showcase what a proper system looks and works like.
- Working system demonstrator with battery storage.
Model #: SET2-Batt-6-24-W
- Solar array with a Wattsun® dual axis (azimuth) tracker designed for 6 modules. (Wattsun® does not offer a tracker smaller than 6 panels. If budget is restricted it can be operated with only 2 panels. Using only 2 panels will illustrate operation but some aspects such as wind exposure cannot be tested unless full.)
- Manual switches will be included to allow full manual control with a simple analogue ammeter at the tower itself - so to demonstrate the effect of dynamic positioning.
- This system will have 6 x SH130 12V modules wired for 24V system.
- Control panel with mounted inverter and controllers
- Two remote controllers - ME-RC50 - gives all status of what is going on with the inverter, and CM-R100 gives all info about what is going on with the PV modules.
- Battery bank of 11.5 kW capacity, deep discharge “golf cart” type in sealed custom box
- Includes a generator start module ME-AGS-N. This module would be used to simulate generator by engaging a contactor to use existing site grid power as a generator. Optionally an actual generator can be added.
- Variable load - resistive heaters with controller
- Digital solar radiation measuring device
