Portable Photovoltaic Energy Trainer
Description: Photovoltaic energy is the direct conversion of solar energy (sunlight) into direct current electricity. To provide for student understanding of photovoltaic systems a portable, frame-mounted integrated trainer is proposed. It models electrical production with energy storage for use anytime day or night. It comprises a complete energy system including different types of solar PV panels, caster-mounted support frame, typical control modules, energy storage modules and manuals covering student exercises, instructor operating notes and technical documentation. Systems comprised of commercially available components, with enhanced instrumentation for improved student understanding. Includes a custom designed training module. Note that this trainer is a real working system intended for the PV panels to be moved outside to natural sunlight.
Equipment Specification Highlights:
Working system demonstrator with battery storage: Model#: SET3-Batt-x-12-x
- Photovoltaic panels of up to 3 different types (e.g. single crystal, poly-crystalline and amorphous or different manufacturers)
- Panel angle manually adjustable with angle indicator (panels park in vertical position for ease of storage and moving)
- Manual orientation relative to the sun will control which solar panel is in use and allow study of the effect of incidence angle
- Wired for 12V system.
- Control panel with mounted inverter and controllers
- Two remote controllers - ME-RC50 - gives status and information of what is going on with the inverter, and CM-R100 gives information about what is going on with the PV modules.
- Battery bank of 2 kW (nominal) capacity, deep discharge “golf cart” type in sealed custom box
- Variable load - resistive heaters with power controller
- All mounted on a welded stainless steel frame with locking casters
- Digital solar radiation measuring device
